What do I have to consider before I start running?
In
order to answer this question, it is important to understand that walking is a
skill that we learned as a child, but have since neglected and thereby
forgotten about it. In order to improve your running style, it is first
necessary to focus on good posture, an optimal step frequency and stride
length, as well as adequate recovery. If you manage to improve these
aspects, you will also increase your muscle strength, endurance and strength
your cardiovascular system at the same time. Many fit athletes have to
work on their cardiovascular fitness before they can run longer distances with clean
technique.
So
what should I focus on first?
As
with almost every movement with an upright posture, running should be viewed
from the bottom up, because after all, it is our feet that transmit our
strength to the road. Strong foot muscles and mobility in the joints (e.g.
ankles) are important aspects in improving our running technique. Unfortunately,
modern shoes and people sitting down contribute to the fact that our foot
muscles become increasingly weaker and more immobile. This means that it
is advisable to use the lever here first and only then to switch to posture,
step frequency, etc.

So
that means that the right footwear is important?
In
any case! The best shoe is the one that most closely reflects the natural
position and function of a healthy foot. So-called barefoot shoes, with a
lot of space in the toe area, little or no blast and a direct feeling for the
ground would be suitable for this. But barefoot shoes are only for people
with very strong foot muscles and perfect running technique. Otherwise the
risk of injury increases very sharply. For most, a minimal running shoe
(low cushioning) combined with running technique training will be the right
choice.
And
go barefoot? Will this help me improve my running technique?
Nowadays
it is unfortunately not always possible to walk around barefoot. Therefore
it is recommended to use suitable barefoot or minimal shoes. On the other
hand, every single one of our running technique specialists recommends
incorporating barefoot training into running technique training. In
general, the more time you move barefoot, the stronger your feet will be.
What
is EVO's position on running technique training?

not only have a positive effect on our running technique, but also on all types
of movement. If you are serious in improving your running technique,
